Historical Events: Short Answer (2 points)

  1. The Eugenics Wars: A two point answer would need to define the civil war in the late 20th century over genetically engineered augments and probably should include a mention of its foremost leader, Khan, who ruled about 2/3 of the world before he went into stasis on the sleeper ship Botany Bay.

  2. Wolf 359: A two point answer would require defining this as the region of space where the first major Federation battle against the Borg was waged, lead by Locutus (Picard assimilated by the Borg) in “The Best of Both Worlds.”

  3. Talos IV: A two point answer would need to discuss Christopher Pike’s visit to the planet Talos IV, the Talosians, who used their telepathic powers to try and add him as a specimen to their alien zoo, and the fact that planet was made off-limits to the Federation.

  4. First Contact: A two point answer would explain Zefram Chochrine’s first warp flight which ultimately lead to first contact with the Vulcans. There should also be a mention of Picard and crew’s involvement because of the Borg incident there.

  5. The Delphic Expanse: A two point answer would define this as the region of space inhabited by the Xindi, who were building a weapon to destroy Earth and where Archer and the NX-01 had to travel in order to stop them. Approx. Scale of Trekkiness

Obviously, this being 100 points, you could grade yourself on the normal college scale (90-100=A, 80-90=B, etc). Based on how my club has done so far (they haven’t all come in yet) I’ll also try to give you an idea of how well you did.

1-20: Redshirt–You’ve seen at least a couple episodes and know what Star Trek is. This quiz wasn’t really for you, but I hope you enjoyed it anyway. Get into one particular series (I suggest Next Generation to start unless you appreciate 60s camp) and start from the beginning. Try again when you’re more interested.

21-45: Channel Surfer– You either watch Trek very casually and have watched a handful of episodes from several series, or you watched one series very regularly but weren’t especially attentive to details.

46-60: Casual Viewer– You have either watched a lot of episodes from various series or are an expert on one series.

61-80: Trekkie/Trekker– You are reasonably knowledgeable about Trek on the whole and probably regularly followed at least three of the five series.

81-90: Trekspert: You watch Star Trek as if it were a course for credit. You have an advanced understanding of the Trek universe and have seen well over half the episodes of every series, many twice.

91-100: Insane Trekspert: You have seen most, if not every episode of every series, many of them at least twice. You probably also own them. You pay extreme attention to detail and this is probably not the first time you have engaged in Trek trivia. You are very possibly qualified to write a book on the subject.

Please leave a comment if you aren’t sure if one of your answers should count or if you disagree with one of my answers. I’d also love to see how you did– feel free to post your score! Hope you enjoyed it!

Comprehensive Star Trek Quiz

Friday, February 29th, 2008

I run a local weekly Star Trek club out of my home called Trek Forever and this year marks our Fifth Anniversary. We do a lot of trivia in club and in honor of our anniversary, I wrote a comprehensive test for my crew to test their individual knowledge of all five Trek series and the films. The test is multiple choice, fill in the blank, matching, and more. The test is very even with respect to each series and the movies.

I decided that other Trek fans might enjoy taking the test as well so here it is. If you’re a die-hard fan and into more than one series, you should really have a good time with this. If you’re a more casual watcher, you may enjoy it too but don’t hit yourself too hard if you don’t do so well– you’ll probably find it pretty hard.
