Geeks Not Nerds– Geeky Video Debates

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

Vince and I just started a new video series the week as a companion to the podcast called Geeks Not Nerds! Each episode, we’ll choose a topic and each of us will get exactly one minute to lay out our opinions. When that’s done, we’ll spend three minutes debating the points we made. Our first episode is a debate about whether the Wii is holding up well as a NextGen console. We hope you’ll check it out!

Lego Video Games: Rock Band Next Month, Harry Potter Next Year

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Just before Lego Batman came out last year, I posted a list of film and TV franchises I thought might be cool for future Lego video game projects. The big one I speculated had a good shot at being the next game was Harry Potter, and it turns out I was right. In case you haven’t heard already, it’ll be based on the first four books/movies and will come out in 2010. I think doing the first four was a good call because if they base the levels on specific scenes as they did with both Lego Star Wars games and Indiana Jones, they’ll have another even number of movies to do with the sequel. The game looks like it’ll follow the familiar format of the other three games (and all their various incarnations) in the series. The trailer is below.

Meanwhile, Lego Rock Band comes out next month, and while it’s a cute idea and looks fun, I’m a little bugged by the 45-track list. Rock Band 2 has nearly twice that many, and it was even released on the PS2, while Lego Rock Band (and presumably every title from now on) is only available for next-gen systems. And every song will be available for download on PS3 and X-Box 360, so besides the cuteness factor, I’m not sure what the appeal is of buying a full-price game with fewer features.  The track list is below. I’m not real impressed with it, though it is wicked-cool that “Ghostbusters” was included.
